Festiwal Ciszy Wrocław
Wrocław — Studio Na Grobli, Żyjnia BWA, Szczytnicki Park, Lower Silesia, Poland
held next dates not announced
Festiwal Ciszy is a listening festival run by Wrocław’s Grotowski Institute, a municipal cultural institution; it began in April 2024 and its third edition ran from 29 May to 7 June 2026.
It is built around Pauline Oliveros’s idea of deep listening, in which silence is an active part of the soundscape rather than an absence of sound, and works through concerts, somatic, Feldenkrais and yoga workshops, a sound walk, a lecture and a film about Oliveros. Events are spread across the city, at Studio Na Grobli, the Żyjnia BWA gallery and Szczytnicki Park, and most are listed as free with advance registration. It is an urban arts programme rather than a retreat, and access is spelled out: the Interocepcja workshop, for one, offers Polish Sign Language interpretation, audio description and a quiet room.
Silence is not the absence of sound but something to listen into, and listening is a practice.
